Problem

A client called us with an unusual and very specific request. They needed a daily forecast delivered before 6 am for complex meteorological parameters that are not included in most forecasts, for a remote location in Western Queensland. And they needed it for the next day!

What we did

Fortunately, we run a highly detailed meteorological forecast across all of Australia. At WI we’re all about delivering targeted useful information – all signal, no noise. So our clients don’t normally see the finer detail of the forecast. We leave the interpretation of those specialist meteorological parameters for our expert meteorologist. But if you really want monin obhukov length or wind shear at 100m above ground level or sensible heat flux it’s there and we can provide it.

This interesting request came from the noise consultancy, Patching Associates. No stranger to specialist consulting services through our many years in air quality consulting at Katestone we’re familiar with the technical inputs some disciplines require.

In consultation with the client, we determined the specific inputs required for their work and were able to extract these parameters from our detailed forecast on a daily basis, tailored to their specifications and delivered within the timeframe.

What it achieved

This in turn allowed Patching Associates to help their client achieve their operational goals and safely drill during specific weather conditions known to enhance noise without upsetting the neighbours. Allowing the drilling to operate safely under these conditions resulted in a cost-benefit to the client as the drilling program was reduced.
